Fashion has always been a revolving door, with trends being recycled in and out over the decades. But right now, the spotlight is firmly on the 1990s and early 2000s. These eras, once mocked for their quirky and sometimes “cringe” aesthetics, are now inspiring today’s biggest looks on runways, social media, and everyday street style.
From low-rise denim, velvet juicy track suits, lace, and cropped clothes, we’re seeing a full revival of the styles that defined an entire generation. And as these nostalgic pieces return, other long-standing trends like skinny jeans, fishnets, bright colours, platforms, band tees and flannels are being put aside to make space for a bolder, more playful fashion era.
The 90s
what a time what a life, the era of baggy and street fashion., unless you were a mom wearing high waisted cuffed jeans all you’d see on the street and tv was baggy jeans and baggy oversized sports jerseys, if it wasn’t baggy it was clean and tucked, plaid and stripes were your best friend and Dj Tanner was your biggest inspo. Sneakers were a must; bonus points if they were white.
Early 2000s
you get two things that pop in your mind you either think about juicy velvet track suits and jersey shore or you think about Justin and Britany in those denim outfits and in the decade there was a lot going on all too fast, we went from velvet track suits and moved onto the animal print, later combining the two (The Cheetah Girls) and then we welcomed in the layered lace tank tops with big chunky necklaces, the bigger the better and the more layers the cooler.
For over a decade, skinny jeans dominated fashion. They were everywhere, from casual looks to office wear, often paired with leather boots or heels. Today, the mood is all about comfort and baggy
What’s In

High-waisted Mum Jeans
slightly baggy, mum jeans are screaming 90s casual style. They’re flattering on a range of body types and pair well with everything from cropped cardigans to oversized sweatshirts.

Bell Bottoms & Flare Jeans
Flare jeans, once iconic in the late 90s and early 2000s, are making a powerful return. Through any type of pants, it's flare or nothing!
What We’re Leaving Behind
To make room for all these retro-inspired pieces, some trends have taken a back seat. Let's explore that!

Skinny Jeans
Their dominance is over; once a wardrobe essential, skinny jeans have taken a back seat. Their tight fight feels out of sync with the current trend toward comfort and oversized fits. It’s been said throughout TikTok that skinny jeans are so outdated, and “who even wears skinny jeans anymore?” This is genuinely heartbreaking for me Personally, I hope skinny jeans become a thing again soon, especially for the fall time. It just feels homey to me.

The infamous flannel
Although it still makes its rounds, many people are leaving the flannel for a fall-time look. Even though it once served as everyday wear, whether it was tied around the waist or worn over a plain shirt, it’s been put down as a seasonal item, just like a pumpkin spice latte.
