New Music Friday: All About The Lyrics And Stars That Made Our Week!!

This week has been one to be talked about for a while, for going from a Waterparks release to a mystery band “comeback”  this week has been so eventful for music nerds and parxsos stans alike. Let’s dive in!

To start this week off, IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL by the band Waterparks came out on September 19th  This song is Awsten addressing the toxic fanbase of parx (Waterparks) with lyrics like  I hope my mom wakes up and reads//all the crazy bullshit on her feed to a bleeped out name about someone calling him, this song screams what Awsten’s been trying to say for years… that people need to mind their own business. We are so proud of him for addressing this.

Next, Cryptic posters started showing up in big cities like NYC and Atlanta GA, talking about a boyband comeback. From the get-go people had a gut feeling it was everyone's favorite band 5 Seconds of Summer (5sos), in the yellow and pink posters there was a website link, and when you type it in, (yourfavoriteboyband.com) you were met with a contact page to add your name and email. One day later, a countdown timer was added to the page for 12pm PT, and a pre-save link for Apple Music and Spotify. After the countdown, The page yet again updated, and it ended up (as everyone suspected) 5sos!!

The first single of 5sos since 2022 (with the exception of lighter) was released, titled, NOT OK everyone was freaking out. When the countdown finished and everyone had their headphones in and volume up. This song was genuinely breathtaking to say the least, with a bringback to the pop-punk scene, this song has a very punk vibe within the lyrics and even some secret dedications to previous songs and solos. A very different (but amazing) approach to a 5sos song….. Since well.. Forever! This song is so different from everything else popular today and it’s genuinely amazing.

At this time we also were notified that… guess what… 5sos is releasing a new album! Instead of a fourth self titled (I HAD to say that) it would be titled Everyone’s A Star. We can’t even imagine how amazing this will be… because lets be honest, 5sos makes hit after hit and doesn’t stop (fitting because of their song Don't Stop)

Then emails started appearing for a secret show?? YES! A secret FREE show, these emails included a time and place. Not even gonna lie, there was some confusion among fans due to a “secret” show, but when Ashton replied to a tweet with the address, people were happy again. Anyways, this show was also to be livestreamed, with classic songs like She Looks So Perfect on the setlist, to new ones like No.1 Obsession and Telephone Busy. 

Music connects, and 5sos dropping posters and a free street show feels just as electric as parx releasing ILWC, it’s the chaos, the countdowns, the late-night theories, and the way we still show up, screaming every word. Both bands proved it, they keep us guessing and we love them for it.
