Louis Tomlinson — “Lemonade” and the next era
It is a Super 8 and lemonade kinda summer. Louis brings back classic summer MTV vibes with this one. The grainy, slightly surreal look aligns with a bigger move: “Lemonade” opens the campaign for his third album, How Did I Get Here, announced for 23 January 2026 on BMG. Expect warm nostalgia, travel energy, and dream logic visuals to carry into the rollout.
Hayley Gosserand — “Stereotype” and Building the Band context
You may remember her from Building the Band. Hayley dropped her music video for Stereotype, with clear references to her time on the show and Mean Girls. This track is the empowering, taking-back-the-narrative moment we wanted for her. Quick BTB refresher: singers formed groups from isolated sound booths and could not see one another. The format created big storylines, and Hayley is now using that history as fuel for her solo era.
Charlie Puth — “Changes”
There is a playful vibe to this music video, and the edit is cool, reminiscent of older MTV. This video also served as the surprise announcement that he is about to be a dad. The reveal landed in the clip and was confirmed in coverage the same day.
Tame Impala — “My Old Ways”
A documentary style feel, analog textures, and a shoebox of tape memories. It ties into Kevin Parker’s current album cycle. Critics note a club-leaning palette and intentionally rough-edged honesty. This song reads like the thesis about looking back while stepping forward.
Thomas Rhett and Niall Horan — “Old Tricks” and what Niall is up to
Nobody expected Niall Horan to be so good on a country collab, but we need him to release more country tracks. The original Old Tricks appears on Thomas Rhett’s About a Woman Deluxe with Blake Shelton, and the new version with Niall arrived this week. Fun full circle note: Niall and Blake overlapped as coaches on The Voice in Season 23, and Niall has talked about how much he learned from Blake. Niall is back coaching this season, teasing new solo music, and dropping in smart cross-genre moments like this one.
5 Seconds of Summer — “Boyband” from Everyone’s a Star
finally, the second single from Everyone’s a Star, 5 Seconds of Summer are back with their new song Boyband, inspired by the negativity of fame and how the media treats boy bands. This song has a catchy beat, but do not let it fool you. It is darker, and the lyrics and stories must not be ignored. The album lands on 14 November with NOT OK as the opener. Boyband doubles down on the era’s thesis: glossy hooks on top, razor edge underneath.
Liam Payne — in memoriam, 16 October 2024
A year on, tributes continue to pour in for Liam, who died on 16 October 2024 in Buenos Aires at age 31. Family and partner shared remembrances this week. Obituaries at the time marked the loss while celebrating his voice, songwriting, and the way he threaded One Direction’s story together. Fans keep his legacy alive through charity efforts and memorial posts. The music community keeps telling the stories that made so many of us care.
That is your Saturday Summary. Refresh the playlist, charge the AirPods, and we will see you back here next week.
