If you grew up in New Zealand, chances are you remember this theme song from your childhood. Maybe you stood in your pyjamas in front of the TV, singing along with Suzy Cato as the sun came up through the cartoon window, or made up your own actions as the credits played. For many families, those happy mornings still feel close to home.
Today, the new You and Me theme song is out, two weeks before the new season starts on YouTube on Saturday, 2nd May. Suzy Cato, the much-loved Kiwi children’s entertainer, returns to host the first new season in more than 28 years. All episodes and songs will be free to watch on the official You and Me YouTube channel, so everyone can join in and sing along.
Bringing You and Me to YouTube means a new generation of fans can watch the show with parents who loved it years ago. Sharing the theme song online for the first time matches how kids now find and enjoy music, letting You and Me become part of daily family life beyond the TV screen.
Each of the 25 weekly episodes will come with a special song from that episode, including the Kiwi classic ‘It's Our Time’. This gives families the chance to sing along together all week.
The show first aired on TV3 in 1993 and ran for over 2,000 episodes. It was one of the first children’s TV programmes to include Te Reo Māori in everyday conversation. This tradition continues in the new season, which celebrates Te Reo Māori and Kiwi culture through songs, stories, and daily moments on screen. By sharing the languages and traditions of Aotearoa, the show helps Kiwi kids see themselves in children’s media, which often misses a local point of view.
