Wicked Part 1 and 2!

Updated: Dec 24, 2025

WICKED

A magical moosical moovie was released in December 2024, WICKED starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

The story interprets two young girls named Glinda and Elphaba who met at Shiz University in the Land Of Oz. Both destined to make a difference in some ways. Glinda being a pretty pink princess, wanting everything in the world. Whilst Elphaba, a beautiful witch as you may say, has a kind demeanour and heart, searches for her meaning in life. She didn’t really fit in with the crowd because she was different  and everyone around her looked with disgust, only seeing someone who  was mistaken for a scary witch. Not because of her hat, because of her skin colour. Unusual and unique. Both of the young girls start to make a vibrant friendship and start to help each other out with their very different lives and choices.

“Wicked” shows us all to explore themes of friendships, acceptance and struggle with “normal” people.  It challenges us to see beyond the "wicked" exterior and recognize the good heart shows within each of us.The songs are a celebration of lyrical brilliance, with each song made to deliver emotional weight. Yes, the movie may feel long, but that was done to show the original Broadway production. The filmmakers made a choice to feature all the iconic songs that have become popular with "Wicked." From the empowering anthem "Defying Gravity" to the heartfelt ballad "For Good," the musical numbers are nothing short of spectacular, showcasing great choreography and vocal performances that are sure to leave audiences in awe.And let’s talk about the characters! The acting in this film is great, with the cast delivering powerful portrayals that show life into their roles. The dynamics between Elphaba and Glinda resonate with humor, showcasing a beautiful friendship that grew throughout their journey. As for the flying monkeys and all the animals, they add a cool touch that enriches the magical spirit of "Wicked," making it a delightful experience for children and adults alike. When it comes to introducing your kids to musical theatre, "Wicked" stands out as a great choice. With its uplifting messages, and breathtaking performances, it opens up a world of inspiration. It’s a film that teaches the greatness of individuality, perseverance, and the power of friendship.

There is a big difference between the “Wizard of Oz” book, The original “Wizard of Oz” movie, “Oz the great and powerful” to the “Wicked” Broadway show, to the “Wicked” movies.

The “Wizard of Oz” is a straightforward story of good versus evil whilst “Wicked” is a backstory about the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch. The key differences are the portrayal of the Wizard as a villain and its different take on events like the Wicked Witch of the West’s death which is staged in “Wicked”. “Wicked” shows a more character driven narrative with complex scenes such as prejudice and corruption whereas “The Wizard of Oz” focuses on a more accessible story about finding their inner strength and appreciating home.

WICKED FOR GOOD

This intense, darker sequel was remarkably acted. “Wicked for Good” leans into the plot's emotional stakes, both Ariana (Glinda) and Cynthia (Elphaba) continue to express their chemistry and vocal range as the characters miss and confront each other, ultimately staying true to their powerful bond. Despite the complications of the love triangle, this story isn’t about the romantic plot. It still remains centered with the two female main characters and their friendship throughout the movie. That said, “As Long As Your Mine” scene is quite sensual; Prince Fiyero uses his seductive  skills to sell his declaration for love. And heartsick Munchkin Boq has no idea his unrequited love for Glinda is about to push a desperate NessaRose, now the governor of MuchkinLand, into morally questionable decisions.

“Wicked for Good” boasts seller production design, fabulous costumes, and striking set pieces. But the story doesn’t move consistently; it’s slow to start but feels rushed at the end. Many audiences will likely prefer the first film's fantasy-academic vibe,as the sequel features more politicking, poril, and life or death stakes. Schwartz's new songs “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl In The Bubble” give Ariana and Cynthia standout vocal showcases, but the original musical numbers are far more show stopping. But the screenplay's timely messages will no doubt resonate - particularly, it’s a reminder that, even in the darkest moments, courage and compassion can change the course of a story for good.
