The concept of this music video is very compelling and meaningful. It means a lot to me. It represents that there are certain situations in life which we have to face on our own. There are certain mental battles that we have to win without any outside help because it is only the person facing those battles who can fight it, the people supporting from the outside can only stand and watch. They are unable to help because it's not their battle to fight. This video represents such situations perfectly by showing one person (Luke) sitting in a locked car which stands for him being trapped in his own mind. His friends are watching him from the outside hoping that he would come out of the car before it crashes. The person inside the car has to make a choice on his own to come out of it, his friends can't open the door and make him come out of the car. This is his own battle. This shows us that we are in control of our own choices and no matter how hard certain mental battles are, it is upto us to make a choice to fight it and win it. Our loved ones may be standing on the other side to support us but first we have to come out of our own mental trap. This is why Lie to me music video is my favourite because of its impactful message.

Luke Hemmings, commonly known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of 5 Seconds of Summer, has released 2 solo albums, Motion, from When Facing The Things We Turn Away From, has such an artistic and well thought through music video. Motions music video is so… individually unique. In the music video blurring effects are used, this really represents a blurred reality, it really visualizes the song. It’s like the song literally came to life. This video uses certain angles and shots to create a feeling of confusion and sort of goes into Luke’s psyche. It helps play the emotional side of the song. All of the effects in this video you can really tell had a purpose and were carefully chosen. Why should you watch it? To get a look into someone else’s mind (Luke’s) and to see how someone else has felt in a particularly rough time, also to gain a sense of what emotional toll being in the spotlight can have on you. It’s a diary entry with visuals and a beat.

Jade's Pick

The circular storytelling in this video, as well as all the hidden Easter eggs, make for a super-entertaining video! To name a few Easter eggs we found there were the girl walking down the street with angel wings (new angel), the cab she gets into has the words “small talk” written on it, Niall walks past graffiti that says “still” then a poster that says heartbreak weather, there's a reference to him walking alongside his one direction bandmates, and the final Easter egg is the number she leaves him!
Featuring Luke's wife, Sierra, this song is emotional in itself, but the video adds an extra kick of sadness. The impending doom of the end of the world, and seeing each of the couples try to accept this, is heartbreaking.
Another fun breakup revenge video is the modern version of Lily Allen's smile! (bonus watch for you) This is girl code boss level, and we love seeing how the story unfolds!
Backstreet Boys are always a nostalgic classic, and this video is no different!
Robbie Williams' videos are always cinematic masterpieces, but "Rock DJ" is a classic!
The editing and layers of this video are absolutely stunning, and even years later, we still can't get over this style of visuals!

Ava's Pick

I don’t usually watch music videos because I value the audio more than the visuals. However, if I had to choose a favourite, it would be ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson. I find the video intriguing because of its unusually long length for a music video. The video blends storytelling, cinematic visuals, and music in an iconic way. It is like a short horror film, though not scary, fleshed out by music and dance. I also appreciate the historical aspect of the video and of the great music!
A nostalgic bop and a girl power hit, this video brings back all the memories of when the girl squad would get together to get over that one guy, probably named “lemon”!
This video is a visual masterpiece, with clear inspirations from icons such as Queen and Nirvana. This is a pop-rock dream, and the beat will be sure to have you bopping too!
Shot entirely on green screens without the boys even being in the same room during the pandemic, this video is the exact opposite of what you would expect from that era! It's fun, it's bright, and it's a psychedelic delight for the eyes, with hints of nostalgic visuals.
Olivia Newton-John consistently delivers stunning visuals, as evident in her video for "Physical," so it's no surprise that this video is also stunning!
The editing for this video evokes emotions and nostalgia, especially when all the boys blend into one band, one dream, one direction!
A big thank you to the nurses and doctors; this music video has us crying our eyes out, especially with Florence Pugh's performance!
